Established for More Than 30 years
Dance Gear was established more than thirty years ago by ex-professional dancer Pauline Turner who had a passion for getting more people into dancing. When she opened the first Dance Gear shop in Birmingham in 1978, its competitively priced quality dancewear led it to become a focal point for the local community of amateur, social and professional dancers.
Many professional members of the community had careers which took them away from Birmingham but they still wanted to continue to shop at the Dance Gear shop. To support them, Pauline began to accept orders over the shop telephone and by post.
By the mid 1990’s, word had spread about Dance Gear’s mail order service which had become known as Dance Gear Direct. Demand became so great that Dance Gear outgrew its small shop, moved to a larger premises and introduced its own range of Dance Gear garments. The 1990’s also saw Pauline’s husband Peter join the business which brought the arrival of the official Dance Gear Direct catalogue and website.
Since these early days, the community that Dance Gear serves has continued to grow and we now provide the latest dancewear to thousands of amateur, social and professional dancers from around the world.
